A wedding ring in marriage is one of the many inventions of man to evidence perhaps the bonding or union of man & woman. Wearing it on the left ring finger means that the man and woman is engaged to be married and if worn on the right ring finger it symbolizes that they are already married. The spouse wears it to indicate a marital commitment to fidelity although this not necessary because:1 Corinthians 7:39 A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
Call it a symbol, ritual or caprice of a woman soon to be married, whatever the reasons may be, remember the very essence why that ring is worn on your finger.
Proverbs 7:1-3 My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.
So for the married and the engaged, the next time you look at your finger, think not of the giver, the price or the elegance of the ring, but to remember that it is the words of God that binds there.
In the USA wearing the wedding ring on right hand ring finger signifies that the person is divorced.
ReplyDeleteNice thing to know but I will not wear the ring if I am divorced for it is a symbol of sexual immorality.
